Concussion
A concussion is a sudden trauma-induced change of the alert mental state. A person who receives a blow to the head that is significantly forceful may be unable to concentrate or be confused for a few seconds, may completely lose consciousness (momentarily) and/or may lose memory of the event (amnesia). These types of injuries do not show up as an abnormality on any testing. The brain is capable of recovering from a concussion. How much force is necessary to cause permanent brain damage is not known at this time, but is being studied.
